There are several causes of dull looking skin such as dehydration, stress, skin conditions, etc. but the main reason is when our skin has layers of dead skin, the surface of the skin doesn’t reflect light as well as a naturally fresh skin would. Therefore, it is very important to include exfoliation in your skin care routine along with a good moisturizer suitable for your skin type.

Here are five amazing masks you can make at home that not only exfoliates your skin but also moisturize to give that instant glow.

Note: It is best to do a patch test first before applying the masks to your face.

Skin Brightening Face Masks

1. Strawberry Mask

You Will Need:

  • Rosewater -1-2 tbsp
  • Strawberries – 2
  • Fuller Earth – 1 tbsp
  • Yogurt- 1 tbsp
  • Glycerin – 2 tsp

You Need to:

Mash strawberries and mix them well with all the other ingredients in a bowl. You can adjust the consistency of the mask. Apply to face and leave on for at least 30 minutes. Remove it with a wash cloth or wash with lukewarm water. Do this twice a week to see a visible difference in your complexion.

 

2. Barley and Orange Mask

You will need:

  • Barley wheat (powder) – 2 tbsp
  • Dried Orange Peel- 1tbsp
  • Honey – 1 tsp
  • Milk – (as required to make a thick paste)

You Need to:

Mix all the ingredients and apply the mixture to your face. Wait for the mask to dry. Remove the dried mask rubbing gently with wet hand and wash off. Barley, orange peel and milk works to exfoliate and brighten skin while honey moisturizes the skin. You can do this 2-3 times a week for faster results.

 

3. Lemon Mask

You Will Need:

  • Lemon Juice – 2-3tbsp
  • Full Cream Milk – 2 tsp
  • Cornflour – 2tsp
  • Almonds – 5 (soaked overnight)

You Need to:

Soak almonds for preferably overnight or for at least 6 hours, peel and grind them into a paste. Add the remaining ingredients to the almond paste and mix well. Apply this paste evenly onto the skin and let it dry. Remove by gently rubbing the mask in a circular motion and wash off with lukewarm water. Applying this mask 2-3 times a week will not only brighten dull complexion, but will also help in reducing blemishes and spots.

 

4. Rose Mask

You Will Need:

  • Rose Petals (Handful)
  • Epsom Salt- 1 tsp
  • Milk Powder: 1 cup
  • Distilled or plain water – As needed
  • Salt -1/4 tsp

You Need to:

Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend. Add water slowly until the mask has a creamy consistency. You can apply this mask on your face, neck, arms and hands half an hour before taking a shower. This mask is very effective in removing blackheads, whiteheads and dead skin. The combination of rose petals and milk powder helps in toning and brightening the skin while Epsom salt helps in flushing out toxins.

 

5. Mint Mask

You Will Need:

  • Dried Mint Powder – 2tbsp
  • Fullers Earth – 1 tbsp
  • Yogurt – 4 tbsp

You Need To:

Mix all the ingredients to form a paste. If you have very oily skin, you can use rose water instead of yogurt. Apply the mask to face and leave until it dries. Wash off with water. Use twice a weak to get rid  of blemishes and tired looking skin.
